HW-420 Unit 6

The universal Loving Kindness exercise and Integral Assessment

I enjoyed the universal loving kindness exercise. It’s something that I say while praying. It was a great way to stay focused and get negative thoughts out of my head.

Integral Assessment-I enjoyed this assessment as well because it has you reflect on your life and things you want to change. I do this often but I don't sit down and actually think "What aspect of my life is the cause of suffering!" I am not suffering in any way. I just have random thoughts about little changes I want to make in my life and my families lives to make it better.
I didn’t really discover anything. I am a very happy, healthy individual and feel like I have pretty much everything in my life that I need. I want to continue doing meditations and focusing and increasing my awareness of myself. I know that it will make a difference in every aspect of my life and, as I continue to work on it, others will be able to tell. Maybe I'll even be able to inspire someone else to work on their personal awareness and inner health!

HW-420 Unit 5 Question #1 and #2

Compare and contrast the Loving Kindness exercise and the Subtle mind exercise.

When I did the Loving-Kindness exercise first time I had a very hard time visualizing or using my imagination to get the full benefit of the practice but when I participated in this exercise the second time the thoughts of others who are suffering permitted me to address the spirituality involved in accepting others sorrows and pains. I enjoyed the subtle mind exercise much more than the loving kindness exercise. It really gave me a sense of calmness by using my breathing as a distraction from all the thoughts that I had in my mind. It was easier to calm my mind by not thinking. I liked the visualization of using our breathing it really helped me focus more on each breath. Great exercise that I will definitely practice it.

The connection of the spiritual wellness to mental and physical wellness

It is really amazing how the whole body is intertwined and connected. It works as a system and when one part of it is not functioning well, the other parts struggle as well. Our body, emotion, mind, energy body and soul together form the whole person. It is only by dealing with each part of the whole within the whole, that we can have vital and energetic health. Physical wellness combines emotional, spiritual and mental wellness. Spiritual wellness can establish serenity and harmony in our lives. I like to consider myself a very spiritual person, whether it's through prayer or deep meditation in a quiet room before bedtime, I can honestly feel the difference both mentally and physically. Being mentally well is intertwined with being physically and spiritually well. Mental wellness is being emotionally well and able to express positive and negative feelings appropriately. Since a calm mental state reduces stress, this will thus also enhance physical health as well. This proves that each aspect of a mental, physical, and spiritual state of being are important when it comes to a complete sense of health.

HW-420 Unit 4 "Loving Kindness Exercise"

Loving Kindness

This week I listened to Dacher's CD tracks #1 and #2. Honestly, my experience with this exercise was a little difficult. It was difficult for me to stay focused and think about the loved one who was suffering pain, I am all about compassion and helping people but what does that have to do with breathing their pain in and out, I mean I can reflect on an individual's pain and suffering and come up with how I can help them but how can you breathe their pain.

I would however recommend this exercise of loving kindness to others to help them find the inner loving kindness for their self; since we all are different you never know who can benefit from this exercise, so I will let the client try it out and form their own opinion.

Mental Workout

The concept of the mental work out is that of working daily through meditation and mind exercise to grow mentally and spiritually. Research has shown with as little as a hour a day devoted to practice of mind exercises one can develop better self-awareness and mind, body, and spiritual health. There are many different ways to implement mental work outs but, one I enjoy is meditation. I find that when I meditate on a daily basis I not only feel better physically and emotionally, I also notice that little things that used to bother me don't any more. I feel at peace when I meditate and I can handle life’s challenges better. It is definitely worth my time and would definitely recommend it.

HW420 Unit 3 Exercise on "The Rainbow Meditation"

Breathing is perhaps the most common way to promote relaxation. After working on this assignment I felt at peace with myself, I felt relaxed, there are no worries or stress of any kind. I focused on getting all the garbage out of my body which are thoughts and focusing on getting the air in through the hole in my head and my feet and also focusing on storing that air in my stomach and then focusing on slowly getting that air through both of those holes out at the same time.

HW-420 Unit 3 "Rating My Well-being"

Rating My Well-being

I will rate my well-being on a scale 1 to 10 (ten being optimal well-being). I will also look at why I rate myself as I do.

A-Physical well-being will be rated 9. I have been physical active almost a year now never stopped in between unless it was an injury or while traveling but over all, I am happy with my current level of exercise and I do aim for at least 45 minutes of physical activity per day approximately 60 minutes total. Along with daily regular activity, I also engage myself in Yoga 2-3 days per week as this helps with balance and flexibility. I do eat a well balanced and healthy diet to maintain my weight.

B-Spiritually-I am about an 8 or so. I have strong faith and belief in God. God has been so good to me and done so much for me. I can't afford not to believe and have faith in god. spiritually seems to be the only state I try to remain my balance at all times and try not to give up "hope" and try to keep up my spirit's on a positive level.

C-Psychological well-being- I would rate my psychological well-being somewhere at an 8. I practice relaxation techniques such as charka meditation and yoga. This helps me activate the relaxation response. When practiced regularly, these activities lead to a reduction in my everyday stress levels and a boost in my feelings of joy and serenity.

My Goals

My goals for each aspect of mental, psychological and spirituality will always be a work in progress. I will always continue to seek knowledge of not only myself but for the benefit of others as well. Exercising needs to be improved as always. Spirituality I do pray fives times a day and would want to continue to do so and it’s always good to be thankful for what we have. Mentally, I will and do try to keep my mind sharp not only calm to where I can focus but active as well through my studies and through games that enhance the memory and concentration.

Activities

Activities or exercise that I can implement in my life to assist in moving toward each goal are as follows:

A.) Physical well-being- activities to try and incorporate different physical activities into my life. These activities can be as simple as playing outdoor with my kids.

B.) Spiritual well-being- would be adding a few minutes each day to thank the higher powers for the life I have and learn to appreciate the positive aspects in my life.

C.) Psychological well-being- would be learning to let go of the things that frustrate me and realize that some of these things are far beyond my control.
